Periodontal "Gum" Disease
Treatment
Periodontal (Gum) Disease is a bacteria-based condition that causes infection and inflammation of the gingiva (gums) and bone. It is a destructive process that progresses over time to destroy the bone and supporting tissues that keep the teeth in the mouth. In the absence of regular dental cleanings and effective home care with brushing and flossing, the bacteria in the mouth can organize into more complex and toxic colonies, called biofilm. The toxic, infectious by-products of these bacteria are not only contagious to other family members, but are also passed systemically into the body every time you swallow. Systemic effects include aggravation of Diabetes, compromise of the immune system, adverse fetal reactions in pregnant women, reduced function in the kidneys, liver, heart, and other organs.
